For example, lavender essential oil has the effect of calming the nerves and helping sleep, and is often added to aromatherapy for trial use.

Essential oils can be divided into three types: unilateral essential oils, compound essential oils, and base oils. Different types of essential oils have different components and usage methods.

①Unilateral Essential Oil

Single essential oil, also known as single oil, refers to a single type of pure essential oil without formula. It is of high purity and generally cannot be used directly on the skin. It can only be used after being fully diluted, but there are a few exceptions.

Single essential oils are usually named after a plant or a part of a plant, and have a strong plant flavor. If essential oils are classified according to plants, they can be as follows:

Citrus: bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin, tangerine, etc.

Floral fragrances: geranium, Roman chamomile, rose petals, lavender, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, etc.

Herbs: Roman chamomile, lavender, peppermint, rosemary, marjoram, clary sage, etc.

Camphor: Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Rosemary, Peppermint, Tea Tree, etc.

Spicy: coriander, black pepper, ginger, cardamom, etc.

Resins: frankincense, myrrh, elemi, galbanum, etc.

Wood: cedar, sandalwood, pine, juniper, cypress, etc.

②Compound Essential Oil

Compound essential oils are different from unilateral essential oils. It is generally a maintenance oil made by diluting and blending two or more essential oils plus base oil. Can be used directly on the skin without dilution.

Each unilateral essential oil has its own effects, such as: sleep aid, stress relief, concentration, smooth airway and so on. The compound essential oil blended by two or more unilateral essential oils is like a finished medicine with a good prescription. Because essential oils have a “synergistic effect” of 1+1>2, the formula formulated with two single essential oils with the same effect will have a more comprehensive and stronger effect on this function.

For example: sweet orange, patchouli, geranium, bergamot, citrus essential oils, etc. can calm and relieve stress. The stress-relieving compound essential oil blended with these five essential oils has a relaxing effect.

③ Base Oil

Base oil refers to a pure vegetable medium oil used to blend one or several high-concentration unilateral essential oils (not suitable for direct application on the skin). After blending with base oil, it can be used directly on the body by massage and other methods.

The more common base oils are roughly as follows:

Wheat germ oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, rosehip oil, evening primrose oil, etc.

If you are a beginner of essential oils, congratulations on starting a beautiful road of essential oil skin care, you need to pay attention to how to preserve your beloved essential oils:

Because essential oils are completely extracted from plants without any addition or artificial synthesis, they are very susceptible to deterioration due to the influence of air, light, temperature, humidity, etc.

Therefore, essential oils must be stored in dark glass bottles with a shading effect, which can reduce 90% of ultraviolet radiation.

Do not use plastic bottles to store essential oils, the chemical composition of plastic will damage the quality of essential oils.

Among them, lavender essential oil oxidizes very quickly and is volatile, so the bottle cap of the essential oil must be tightened.
